Top 10 Most Common Daily Pinoy English Words ErrorsFor this post we are just showcasing some of the most common English words that most of the Filipino are using, not knowing that they are pronouncing, and using the term incorrectly. Its a little bit funny but this is definitely the facts. Here they are guys!

TOP : 1
English Word : USB
Explanation :
  • The pronunciation is 100% correct, but the use of the word is wrong. Some Pinoy (specially IT or any computer-related people) are using USB as the easy word to use and remember name for the USB Flash drive or just flash drive. This is definitely incorrect. Why? the answer is very simple, USB means UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS so it is not an external device. The proper name that must be use is USB flash drive or just flash drive, etc..

English Word : CPU
Explanation :
  • Another computer term that is used incorrectly by ITs is the CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT or commonly known as CPU. They are calling the System Unit as CPU. It is clearly stated in Wikipedia what is the meaning of a CPU - "is the hardware within a computer that carries out the instructions of a computer program by performing the basic arithmetical, logical, and input/output operations of the system". So instead of calling CPU, it should be System Unit.

English Word : Waiting Shed
Explanation :
  • When I am commuting via jeepney to go to work, I commonly heard people say "Waiting Shade" instead of "Waiting Shed". On the other hand, by accident the term waiting shade is also correct since "waiting" means to wait and "shade" is a place where there's no light from the sun, which means to wait in a place where there is a shade. But the proper term is not shade it's shed. Shed is a structure wherein you can use to wait or shelter yourself when there's a rain.

English Word : Mad Guard
Explanation :
  • This one is very common to drivers specially tricycle drivers. Instead of pronouncing "mad guard" they commonly say "madgar". For those who didn't know, mad guard is not a security guard that is mad or angry it is a black plastic-rubber thing that is use to cover the wheels of a tricycle or any other vehicles against mad or any other dirty debris of the street. It even protects the passenger to get wet or dirty.

English Word : Loose Thread
Explanation :
  • Many Filipinos non educated or even educated used this words incorrectly everyday. They are commonly saying "loose trade" not "loose thread". Maybe they just heard the term from anybody and then got passed on and on by the process of hearing and chatting. Loose thread is commonly a term used for the screws that already loose its threads. Threads are the circling engraving around the screw. Commonly, when this happened, the screw is not usable anymore. While a loose trade, I can only say that you loose a trading system or whatever. It is a very far, far term for a loose thread after all.

English Word : Humps
Explanation :
  • "Road humps" or "speed bumps" are very useful when it comes to the places like school zones, churches and other public places where there are too many vehicles that pass by. The funny part is the pronunciation of the word is once again wrong. Many Filipinos are pronouncing "humps" as "hams". Wow! I felt a little hungry for that one. Really!
