The fifth largest continent of the world Antarctica is also the most coldest, driest and and windiest continent. 98% of Antarctica is covered with ice and for this, it supplies more than half of the world's fresh water. There are no inhabitants living in Antarctica although there are some. The place is commonly use for experimentation and test projects of scientists from around the globe. Because of the extreme condition here, only living organisms that can adapt to the extreme cold can survive here, thus, algae, bacteria, fungi, plants, protista, and certain animals, such as mites, nematodes, penguins, seals and tardigrades. The Antarctic Treaty was signed in order to protect Antarctica in 1959. The treaty prohibits mining, military activities and nuclear explosion/waste disposal.
